Front hub designs are relatively simple and straightforward compared to the rear hub. However, they are responsible and tasked for a front wheel’s stiffness and stability. These qualities can be felt during cornering, hard sprints or off-the-saddle climbs. The DS1 has a 15mm diameter thru’ axle, with high stiffness. The distances & the P.C.D. of the flanges provide wide bracing spoke angles for lateral wheel stiffness and stability. Precise hub bearing adjustments can be achieved with the pre-load threaded collar to optimise bearing stiffness. Lastly, the DS front hub also encompass a thicker hub shell for added strength.
The rear hub in a bicycle wheel takes the brunt of the load so we have to consider in depth how a rear hub (and wheel) handles different forces laterally & radially with high torques along with the rider’s weight. While a welterweight figure for any bicycle parts is always considered attractive; however for a rear hub, first it needs to be functional and possess excellent properties of Strength, Stiffness, Stability and Smoothness It should not be pointlessly light while missing all these considerations.
